EASTER SHOW & SALE OF SPRING LAMBS |

John Whalley, was triumphant for the third year running at Gisburn auction marts Easter show and sale of spring lambs on Monday 17 March. |
|||
|
Spirited bidding from numerous wholesale and private butchers produced the top bid of the day, at £104 for the champion lamb from the Darwen based sheep and dairy farmer. The outstanding lamb, a 12-week-old Texel cross was picked from an entry of 36 show lambs. Weighing 43kgs the prize winning lamb sold to the pre-sale judge, Mr Richard Hobday of White Peak Farm Butchery, Tissington, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. |

Suffolk breeder, Geoff Richmond, Garstang, Preston, was in the money with his pair of Suffolk lambs, which won the red rosette in the pairs class. Sired by a Conveth ram, weighing 43kgs, they sold for £99, again to White Peak Farm Butchery. The lambs purchased by White Peak Farm Butchery, will be on sale in time for the Easter trade. |

Thursday 28 February 2008 SWALEDALE PRIME HOGG SHOW AND SALE Paul Baines, Trawden, beat off strong competition to win the first prize rosette with his pen of ten Swaledale prime hoggs, at the fourth annual show and sale of Swaledale prime hoggs at Gisburn auction marts last Thursday. (28 Feb).Weighing 42kilos they sold for £49.50 or 118p a kilo. Taking home the second prize rosette was Geoff & Margaret Walker, Dunsop Bridge, Clitheroe. This time with a pen of 47 kilos hoggs which sold for £52.20 or 111p per kilo. The firm of Walker & Alpe, Chipping, Preston picked up the third prize rosette, with their hoggs, weighing 45 kilos; they sold for £49.20 or 109p/kg. Purchaser of all the prize-winning hoggs was to livestock agent, Andrew Atkinson, Kettlesing, Harrogate.
