GISBURN AUCTION MARTS JULY DAIRY SHOW & SALE |
|
With the prospect of an increase in farm milk prices and a much welcome shower of rain, buyers were on top form at Gisburn’s monthly dairy show sponsored by Dugdale Nutrition. Top price of £2,300.00 was achieved twice for heifers from Frankland Farms. Showing a splendid group of cattle they had 6 at over £2,000.00 each. Judge G Billington of Brock gave 1st prize heifer to Franklands which was by Lucente and sold to Penrith farmers Tom Wilson & Son for £2,300.00. First prize cow also from Franklands sold for £2080.00 to Tom Green of Wigan, who also took a heifer from the same vendor for £2,000.00. Lancashire cattle agent Aubrey Greenhalgh also took one of Franklands heifers on behalf of a Welsh farmer at £2,300.00.
In total 70 cattle were on offer with the top 20 heifers averaging £1,950.00 per head. In calf heifers sold to £1,860.00 for Malcolm Bretton and averaged £1420.00 for 16 head. Heifer calves sold to £430.00 for a Swedish Red/Holstein cross from D Mattinson. This months pedigree sale is on 15th July 2010 with another consignment from Frankland Farms on offer. |

Colin Singleton took the honours again at Gisburn Auction Marts Pedigree Show and Sale. There was a strong show of 22 heifers but Mr Singleton fought off the strong challenge when Judge Mr John Sanderson pulled his Weeton Brandy heifer to the top of the line, she went onto sell to David Coulthurst of Goosnargh. Reserve Champion went to Lee Donkin with a Ladino Park Talent heifer with a superb udder she sold to Chris Bargh of Osbaldeston. Mr T Green of Wigan bought the top price cow from David Hall of Coniston Cold she was a 3rd calver giving a massive 46kgs and sired by Canyon-Breeze Allen. In-Calf heifers sold to £1600 and a good group of 5 heifer calves from P Dakin sold to £290. |

gisburn auction marts PEDIGREE DAIRY CATTLE sale - 18 february 2010 The February Cogent Show & Sale at Gisburn Auction Marts saw an entry of 12 top quality heifers on offer. Regular vendor Colin Singleton took Champion & Reserve Champion with Tom Richardson coming in at third place. Judge Mr A Greenhalgh made quick work of the judging and chose a Gillette Final Cut heifer giving 36 litres as Champion it sold for £2400 to D Coulthurst of Longridge. Reserve Champion was Braedale Bam Bam daughter out of a VG88 cow and with a superb udder she sold to the same buyer for £2,320. Third prize from T Richardson was a Sam daughter, she sold for £2200 to Messrs. A T Barrow. Most of the other heifers on offer sold around the £1800 mark with new buyers looking for affordable TB replacements. In calf cattle was slower to sell and the five on offer averaged £1380. |
